Upcoming Events 2024

Take Back The Night

In connection with the Take Back The Night Foundation, SCAN held Take Back The Night events in June 2021 and June 2022. Take Back The Night is a worldwide movement to stand against sexual violence. No person should need to fear for their safety, regardless of their gender, what they look like, what they wear, or the community they are in. We are planning to schedule another event sometime during early 2024. If you are interested in participating in the event, please contact us.

River Temperature Monitoring

SCAN participates in a joint project with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Orca Conservancy, and Friends of The Snoqualmie Valley Trail and River to monitor the water temperature in the Snoqualmie River. Water temperature is crucial in ensuring healthy fish populations, which in turn supports the Puget Sound orca population. Water temperature is affected by numerous factors including low tree growth along riverbanks and runoff from developments.

Our training materials for this project can be seen at:

Community Garbage Pickup

SCAN organizes community garbage pickups in the City of Snoqualmie and has plans to schedule additional pickup activities along the Snoqualmie River including parking areas frequented by floaters, boat launches, etc. This is an important volunteer event to protect the beauty of our communities and keep garbage from entering the water.

If you are interested in participating in one of our upcoming events, please contact us.

About Snoqualmie Community Action Network

What has now become the Snoqualmie Community Action Network (SCAN) started as a small group of concerned citizens hoping to make a difference in the community. Initial conversations dealt with topics of rapid growth, lack of affordability, and how excessive development can negatively impact a community, as well as its open spaces, natural resources and cultural significance.

Presently, SCAN works to raise awareness in the community about critical current issues,  as they relate to climate change, health of the Snoqualmie River, land use and development. SCAN's primary goal is to encourage and facilitate community involvement in critical issues facing the region, specifically Snoqualmie and its immediate surrounding areas. Our mission is to provide education and advocacy focused on creating a community driven future for the Snoqualmie Valley.

Above all else, SCAN is unwaveringly dedicated to providing factual and verifiable information to the community. The vast majority of information shared on this page comes directly from the Snoqualmie City government, Washington State government, or other governmental and regulatory agencies. If you have questions about any of the information shared on this page and would like to inquire further about our sources, feel free to email us at SnoqualmieAction@gmail.com.

The primary objective of this informational website is to spread awareness with factual, scientific and historical information about the potential environmental risks posed by the Snoqualmie Mill site. As a group, we advocate for a safe, healthy and sustainable future for the Snoqualmie Mill site.
